Meet Susan Panaway, Author of Odd Servations Zine

Tell us a little about yourself.
I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and look to pursue a master’s degree in art therapy. Soul music is usually playing when I create.  I want to go to Space Camp someday.

Who or what are your influences?
Currently I am inspired by the works of graphic designer, Jean Jullien and conceptual artist, Barbara Kruger. Some of my earlier influences include cartoons and adventure books.

What subjects do you touch upon in your work?
Most of my work centers around exaggerated portraits. I also like to incorporate science fiction into my pieces, whether it be robots or space creatures.

What is your most recent work?
My latest creation is a watercolor painting of a wolf standing in front of wallpaper.

What are you looking forward to most at the fest?
I am looking forward to meeting other artists.

Meet Amy Wyman, Painter Extraordinaire

Tell us a little about yourself.
I like to pretend I have a Russian accent. I am not good at it. Child-proof medication lids frustrate me to no end.

Who or what are your influences?
I’d say the biggest 4 are the Impressionists, Van Gogh, John Singer Sargent, and my high school art teachers, the Hambys.

What subjects do you touch upon in your work?
How detailed and perfect each and every random spot in the universe is. I see that the more and more I paint, each petal or branch is part of a structure, both poetry and math, written by God in every corner of the universe.

What is your most recent work?
It’s this giant painting of the sky that I will probably never finish and there’s 5,000 different colors twisting around in it. No matter what the weather is, the sky is never boring.

What are you looking forward to most at the fest?
Meeting the people. They’re all a bunch of weirdos and they never fail to amaze me with their talents/personalities.

Meet Chelsea Nesler, Creator of Chelsea Smile Vintage

Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Chelsea and I’m 20 years old. In my spare time, I create things and cook delicious vegan food. I collect used paperbacks, creepy clowns, and vintage owls.

Who or what are your influences?
I create things that make me happy and I hope that they make other people happy too.

What subjects do you touch upon in your work?
I really like quirky, cute, spooky and colorful items and accessories. If I wouldn’t wear it, I won’t sell it.

What is your most recent work?
A giant pile of old vinyl records has appeared in my possession recently. I really like the idea of making something out of nothing so I’ve been finding ways to reuse those, from painting on them to creating jewelry from them.

What are you looking forward to most at the fest?
I’m looking forward to attending in general! I have been unsuccessfully trying to attend the daytime part since 2011, though I did make it to the poetry reading last year. I can’t wait to make some new friends and see all the goodies that they bring with them.

Thanks to all who signed up! There’s a full house! However, there are some new people still inquiring about tables. My answer to that is: I can contact you if someone drops out in the remaining month of May or you have the option to table outside. If this is the case, you are solely responsible for bringing a table and chairs as well as weather-proofing your materials. The Scranton Zine Fest is known to have rain every year and this year we wanted to keep everyone inside. Since I cannot guarantee warm weather, this must be your choice to come up to the city or not. Meet Christine Stoddard, Founder of Quail Bell Press

Tell us a little about yourself.
My name’s Christine Stoddard and I’m the founder/executive director of Quail Bell Press & Productions, LLC. Quail Bell runs regular projects, like Quail Bell Magazine, and also releases special ones, such as “The Persistence of Poe,” a documentary film. I live in Richmond, Virginia, locally known as RVA.

Who or what are your influences?
The imaginary, the nostalgic, and the otherworldly.

What subjects do you touch upon in your work?
Folklore, history, social justice, community design.

What is your most recent work?
